Cabaret

by Alyssa Berry - January 20, 2011

I’m sure everyone has heard about the new play called Cabaret, which is being directed by our very own beloved drama teacher, Sue Barber and if you haven’t….you must be living under a rock. This play is based on a novel from 1951 called Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood. It is a fascinating tale about an author with writers block who moves to Berlin to try and get inspired. There, he meets and falls in love with a Cabaret singer named Sally Bowles. There is also a beautiful romance between and elderly fruit shop owner, Herrschultz and Fraulein Schneider. Around all of this is the rise of the Nazi party in Germany. What this play really looks at is how did it happen. How from New Years eve 1930, in 15 years, did over 17 million people get killed, only because they weren’t the right race. If most of you students or parents thought that this play would only be about life in the Cabaret, then you thought wrong. This play is a tale of romance, cruelty and identity. In this play, there is a cast of 30, starring Laura Beach as Sally Bowles, Kelsey Wade as the MC, Spencer Edgar as Ernst and Sophie Gagne as Schneider. This play will be running February 15th-19th and tickets are available through any cast member of at the office. Tickets are 15 dollars for adults and 10 for students and seniors. This play will be performed in the White Pines auditorium. If you have any more questions regarding this production, please speak to the mastermind of it all, Mrs. Barber. This play is definitely something that you wouldn’t want to miss, so buy your tickets now!
